Enable Video Edit on iPhone 3G and 2G, VideoEdit Toggle (3GS Feature)

VideoEditingMain

This tutorial will enable the new camera roll and video editing capabilities from iPhone 3GS on your iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G using VideoEdit Toggle.

As you all know this is another feature the 3GS already comes equipped with so why not make the same feature available on 3G and 2G iPhones for all of us who are still on “OLDER” 2G/3G iPhones… You will also get an option to upload videos you took from Cycorder app to YouTube directly from Camera Roll app just like in iPhone 3GS.

Do you want to give it a try? It’s not that hard to obtain and install… Here is what you need in order to get this app…

NOTE: You must have a Jailbroken iPhone in order to use this feature…

cydia

  • You gotta have a Jailbroken iPhone 2G or 3G
  • You have to go to Cydia and install Cycorder
  • You have to go to Cydia and install SBSettings
  • You have to go to Cydia and install MobileTerminal
  • If you’re using PC you have to have/download WinSCP
(If you don’t know what WinSCP is please Read This Article)
  • If you’re using Mac you have to have /download CyberDuck
(Same as WinSCP but for Mac
    )
  • Make sure you have OpenSSH installed and running on your iPhone
(If you don’t know what OpenSSH is please Read This Article)

  • You have to Download VideoToggle.zip File and Extract it to your Compuer

ALL DOWNLOAD LINKS FOR ALL REQUIRED FILES ARE PROVIDED BELOW / AT THE END OF THIS ARTICLE

OK here we go…

Start WinSCP and connect to iPhone. In host name field, type in the IP address of your iPhone. Make sure the port number is set to “22” by default this option is already set to 22 but in case it’s not then change it. For user name use “root” and for password use “alpine(NOTE: This user name and password is the same for all iPhones and iTouch iPods ever made by Apple). Don’t worry about any other fields or options.

Once you have logged in to your iPhone, browse to private/var/temp directory.

VideoEdit_1

Extract the VideoToggle.Zip file, you will see extracted “VideoToggle” folder…copy it to your iPhone in this directory: private/var/temp

VideoEdit_2

Now open the Mobile Terminal on your iPhone and do the following, Type in “su” and press return… You will be asked for the password, Type in “alpine” and press return.
NOTE: You will not see the password or any characters while you will be typing it in…

Now you should see a screen with something like this: “Phone’sName-iPhone:/var/mobile root#” in my case it was MaXsKi-iPhone:/var/mobile root# because my iPhone is named MaXsKi

Now type in this command: bash /private/var/tmp/VideoToggle/install and press return button…

After the installation your iPhone will respring and the toggle will be installed in SBSettings but in order for your camera app to not be permanently locked you must reboot the device.

Start SBSettings by swiping on the status bar on the top (Swipe your top bar where you see the time, battery, Signal from left to right). You can also tap with (2) two fingers on the top bar where your time is shown to open the SBSettings Panel… Once you see the panel enable VideoEdit by tapping the VideoEdit icon, as shown in screenshot below:

When the new toggle is turned ON, you will be able to go to your camera roll , see the movies you recorded and play them and also trim them. Also, if the toggle is ON, you wont be able to use the photo camera. Turn it OFF, and you’ll get your camera back.

When the toggle is off(red), you can use cycorder to record videos and save them in a camera roll. Whenever you are ready to modify and cut them, you must activate the toggle and go into the photos app! You can then select the part you want and then click the Cut button on the upper right. Also, if the toggle is ON, you wont be able to use the photo camera. Turn it OFF, and you’ll get your camera back.

Turn the VideoToggle ON (in the SBSettings), Now go to your Camera Roll in Photos app and you should now have iPhone 3GS Camera Roll, Video Editing and Video Uploading options in your iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G…

Look at the screen-shot below do you notice anything different? Look at the bottom where it says 96 Photos, 3 Videos... That’s right, now your iPhone shows Videos inside the camera roll…

VideoEditScreens

Now you can play videos recorded from Cycorder app in Photos app on our iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G… You don’t have to go to the cycorder in order to play your videos.

VideoEditScreens (2)

Now you can trim your videos on your 2G and 3G just like the 3GS users do.

VideoEditScreens (4)

Now you can share your Videos in multiple ways, Email your Videos, Send it via MMS, or Send it directly to YouTube. (NOTE: The MMS option will not show up if you’re running 3.0.1 Firmware or below, 2G users will lack this option as well)

NOTE TO 2G iPhone users running 3.1.2 Firmware… You now can enable the Native MMS feaure following this tutorial
NOTE TO 2G iPhone users running 3.1 or below Firmware… You now can enable the Native MMS feaure following this tutorial

NOTE: When the Toggle of Video Editing is active, it will be impossible to take pictures through the camera, which will remain forever closed. “Remember to activate the toggle only when you need to edit your videos, share them, etc. and then turn the toggle back OFF to regain the functionality of your photo camera…

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

If you want to UNINSTALL this feature / VideoToggle then the UNINSTALL process is the exact same as the installation procedure it just has 2 extra letters. You must once again Copy the VideoToggle folder to your iPhones Private/var/tmp directory just like you did when you were installing it.
NOTE:
after any install or uninstall you will have to copy the files back in the Private/var/tmp directory because they get erased in the install/uninstall process.

Open the Mobile Terminal on your iPhone and do the following, Type in “su” and press return… You will be asked for the password, Type in “alpine” and press return.

I like it but it convert the videos to .3gp(causing no video, only sound) format when you mms or email it. Is there any way around that?
