Get Voice Control on iPhone 3G and 2G, Exclusive 3GS Feature but on 3G & 2G
With Voice Control, you can use your voice to call someone in your Contacts list, dial a number or control iPod playback. As many of us know, the Voice Control feature is only available on new 3GS iPhones only, so all the 2G and 3G users are missing out… Well someone over at this forum have released a Voice Control look-alike app for iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G which works and looks almost exactly as it is on iPhone 3GS and you know what? It works just it does on the 3GS… (Almost!!!)
Do you want to give it a try? It’s super simple to obtain and install… Here is what you need in order to get this app…
NOTE: You must have a Jailbroken iPhone in order to use this feature…

- You gotta have a Jailbroken iPhone 2G or 3G
- If you’re using PC you have to have/download WinSCP
(If you don’t know what WinSCP is please Read This Article) - If you’re using Mac you have to have /download CyberDuck
(Same as WinSCP but for Mac) - Make sure you have OpenSSH installed and running on your iPhone
(If you don’t know what OpenSSH is please Read This Article) - You have to Download VoiceControl.zip File and Extract it to your Compuer
ALL DOWNLOAD LINKS FOR ALL REQUIRED FILES ARE PROVIDED BELOW / AT THE END OF THIS ARTICLE
OK here we go…
Start WinSCP and connect to iPhone. In host name field, type in the IP address of your iPhone. Make sure the port number is set to “22” by default this option is already set to 22 but in case it’s not then change it. For user name use “root” and for password use “alpine” (NOTE: This user name and password is the same for all iPhones and iTouch iPods ever made by Apple). Don’t worry about any other fields or options.
Once you have logged in to your iPhone, browse to /<root>/Applications directory. If you are not sure how to navigate to <root> directory then you can also browse to /private/var/stash/Applications it will take you to the same Applications folder…
Extract the Voice Control.Zip file, you will see extracted “Voice Control.app” folder…copy it to your iPhone in this directory: /<root>/Applications…Once again, you can also browse to /private/var/stash/Applications it will take you to the same Applications folder…
Inside the WinSCP window / iPhone, Right-click on “Voice Control.app” which you just copied, click on Properties and change the permission to 755. Make sure you check “Set group, owner and permissions recursively” option as shown below:
That’s it! Restart your iPhone and you should now have a new app named “Voice Control” on your springboard. Start this new application on your iPhone 3G or 2G and simply search through your contacts, music and bookmarks by using voice commands just like iPhone 3GS!

Hi, I’m confused, the IP address on my iPhone is the address for my interner modem. When I us MyWi the IP address then won’t work. Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong? I downloaded the WinSCP & Open SSH, so that I can use the voicecontrol. The voicemail voice is activated but I’m unable to connect to my iPhone to drag the voicecontrol zip file.
Thank you
