T-Mobile USA MMS Fix for iOS4 – Detailed Tutorial on How to Fix the MMS Issues with T-Mobile Unlocked iPhones on iOS 4

Fix for T-Mobile UNLOCKERS on iOS 4

A lot of users that are on tmobile and using an upgraded ios 4.0 iphone have been stuck trying to get mms working on their iphones again. Thanks to a fellow user named Locomambo and fernandorinto over at mmi, we now have a fix. It requires ssh and copying over an edited plist file made by me so you don’t have to do all of the extra work.

  • SSH into your iphone and navigate to var/mobile/library/preferences

First thing you need to do is Download WinSCP if you are on Windows and Cyberduck if you are on Mac.

NOTE: If you don’t know what WinSCP is please Read This Article.

Make sure you have OpenSSH installed and running on your iPhone.

NOTE: If you don’t know what OpenSSH is please Read This Article

Make a back up of a file called “com.apple.mms_override.plist”

  • Download: ios 4.0 Tmobile MMS Fix Plist
  • Copy downloaded file to var/mobile/library/preferences and overwrite the original (back up first)
  • Reboot your iphone and test mms, if it doesn’t work see below

After Rebooting your phone and its not working, Open Settings and go to General/Network/Cellular Data Network/ and make sure you have the same settings below “if not” then just add them manually.

Cellular Data:
Apn: internet2.voicestream.com
Username:
Password:

Mms:
Apn: epc.tmobile.com
Username:
Password:
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
MMS Max Message Size: 1048576
MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

  • Now reboot your iphone one more time and test mms, it should work.
  • Alternatively you can use this apn wap.voicestream.com which ever one works for you.

Dude, with all due respect, I don’t see the cellular network options in the General/Network area. It used to be there with 3.0, but I haven’t seen it in 4.0. Are you sure you have that right? I can’t get data working on here at all (except via WiFi).

You do not need all the settings detailed in the above article. What you need to do is go to the following url and follow the instructions T-Mobile provides for MMS on the iPhone.

After a couple days fiddling with all the settings posted around the net, the only thing that worked for me were the instructions in the link posted below direct from T-Mobile. I have a iPhone 3G 16GB running iOS4 jailbroken with redsn0w and unlocked.

    Enjoy!

This works!!! After going through several iPhone with sever firmwares and several methods, this is the FIRST one to fix the problem where I am able to send but not receive!

This works perfectly for my iPhone 3GS on iOS4, jailbroken with sn0wbreeze, unlocked with ultrasn0w. THANK YOU!

Dude thank you so much for this!!

I’m running ios 4 on my jb’d 3GS with firmware 05.11.07 and this worked like a charm.

After updating your preference file I didnt have to alter anything further. I’d tried a MILLION other “fixes” from out there on the interweb and nothing worked until your solution.

    Thanks you!!

if you dont see the cellular data network tab, reboot your phone and remove the sim card. Go to Settings, general, about and wait for about 30 sec to a min and you will see your carrier change to 8.0 not ATT then the tab will be available. Sweeeeeet!

Thank you, I tried all settings, variations, and the cydia tmobile 4.0 fix, and the only thing to work was the OpenSSH (com.apple.mms_override.plist).

Thank you so much. This worked for me after I thought of just giving up entirely after several failed fixes.

The trick for me, if anyone is out there and still having problems, was to uninstall all previous fixes I tried before including this file. For those interested, I downloaded the file and placed it on the phone using the program called Diskaid, not SSH. I just downloaded diskaid, plugged my phone into the my desktop via the usb charger cord, and navigated to var/mobile/library/preferences. Downloaded the override file mentioned in this guide, dragged it over and replaced the existing file. I then closed diskaid, unplugged my phone, rebooted and I received my first picture message. Up until that point I tried probably 10 fixes and still got the media content not downloaded due to file size or picture resolution error.

Cheers! Good luck to others out there.

Thanks much for your skillz Just a note: I could not find the file ( var/mobile/library/preferences ) only a file /private/var/mobile/library/preferences which is where I laid the “com.apple.mms_override.plist” I guess it was ok because its working fine now
    Thanks again for the FIX
