TUTORIAL on How to Download and Install Mobile Terminal 4.26 for iOS 4 / 4.0.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS & iPad 3.2.1

I’m not sure if you guys aware of this or not but the current version of Mobile Terminal (in Cydia) for iPhone crashes on iOS 4.
If you like using Mobile Terminal and would like to resolve the problem, you can install Mobile Terminal 4.26 which works great on iOS 4 / iOS 4.0.1. I have this version installed on my iPhone 4 and my iPhone 3GS and it works like charm. Here are step by step instructions:
NOTE: You must have a Jailbroken iPhone or iPad in order to get this accomplished… IF you need to Jailbreak your device then please read this article and use JailbreakMe tool to get your device jailbroken
- If you’re using PC you have to have/download WinSCP
(If you don’t know what WinSCP is please Read This Article) - If you’re using Mac you have to have /download CyberDuck
(Same as WinSCP but for Mac) - Make sure you have OpenSSH installed and running on your iPhone
(If you don’t know what OpenSSH is please Read This Article) - You have to Download MobileTerminal-426.deb File and Save it to your Computer
ALL DOWNLOAD LINKS FOR ALL REQUIRED FILES ARE PROVIDED BELOW / AT THE END OF THIS ARTICLE
Step One: Go ahead and Download the MobileTerminal-426.deb file from here or from the link at the bottom of this tutorial and save it on your computer (Desktop, etc.)
Start WinSCP and connect to iPhone. In host name field, type in the IP address of your iPhone. Make sure the port number is set to “22” by default this option is already set to 22 but in case it’s not then change it.
For user name use “root” and for password use “alpine” (NOTE: This user name and password is the same for all iPhones and iTouch iPods ever made by Apple). Don’t worry about any other fields or options.
Once you have logged in to your iPhone, browse to private/var/mobile directory.

Copy/Move the “MobileTerminal-426.deb” to your iPhone in this directory: private/var/mobile

Now while in the WinSCP go to Commands Menu at the top and then select “Open Terminal” or just press “Control + T” on your keyboard to open the Terminal window.
Once the Terminal Window opens up, you will need to type in this command into the “Enter Command” field… Type in dpkg -i MobileTerminal-426.deb and then press the Execute button.
Now Restart / Reboot your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. After the iDevice restarts, you should find Mobile Terminal on your SpringBoard. Run it and this time Mobile Terminal will not crash.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
IF you don’t want to use the TERMINAL in the WinSCP or if you’re having trouble using it then you should do this;
While in WinSCP or Cyberduck, navigate to the /var/root/Media directory and then create a folder named “Cydia”, under Attributes Check the SET PERMISSIONS box and then sett your permissions to 0777. Inside this Cydia folder, create another folder and name it “AutoInstall” – Set same permissions. Click on the image below for full preview
Copy over the MobileTerminal-426.deb file in this “AutoInstall” folder then Restart / Reboot your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
After the iDevice restarts, you should find Mobile Terminal on your SpringBoard. Run it and this time Mobile Terminal will not crash.

Worked great. White icon like the 3.0 starter days but worked. Thanks!!!!
@BobTolan
Reinstall Openssh and then ssh in and go to /bin/poc-bbot and remove poc-bbot. File is a worm that disconnects ssh sessions.
this worked great
Awesome…!! It worked like a charm. Thanks for the post. You made my day…
Superb guide. A life saver on the iPad…

Thanks very much, the hardest was to download it.
I did it this way:
ssh into the iPhone as root
scp mymac:~/Downloads/MobileTerminal-426.deb .
dpkg -i MobileTerminal-426.deb
exit
reboot iPhone
And it works. Thanks!
FYI this still works as advertised. I just installed it on iOS 4.2.1 on my freshly jailbroken 3Gs running the Greenpoisi0n unteathered JB.
