Enable HD Video Recording on Your iPhone 3GS

All iPhone 3Gs users / owners, if you want to enable HD video recording on your iPhone then this tutorial is for you. In this tutorial I will show you how to enable HD video recording on your jailbroken iPhone 3GS, running iOS 4.x.

ARM Cortex processor on iPhone 3GS is apparently capable of handling 720p video encoding, it is just that Apple has imposed some limitation in the software which Mike Pan has successfully managed to bypass to allow video recording at 1080×800 @ 30fps at up to 20Mbps. The default settings for video recording on iPhone 3GS are: 640×480 @ 3Mbps.

Simply follow the instructions posted below to get it working on your iPhone3GS. I have tried it on my iPhone 3GS (jailbroken using Greenpois0n on iOS 4.1) and it has worked perfectly!

Here is a way to get the phone to record video (and playback on the iPhone) at 1080×800 @ 30fps at up to 20Mbps. (up from the original 640×480 @ 3Mbps) (I am using the non-standard 1080×800 in order to keep the video at the right aspect ratio) Read more…

Google Founders Wanted Steve Jobs As Their First CEO

Hey guys, did you know that the first person Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin wanted to hire as their CEO was Steve Jobs, according to Bloomberg’s Game Changers series. I have included the link to the entire video / store on how Google has started and their entire company history starting from just being university students to today’s top billionaires.

The discovery comes from Bloomberg’s documentary series “Game Changers” which features the life stories of influential people from the technology, finance, politics “industry”. One such person is, of course, Steve Jobs himself who really needs no formal introduction to readers of iPhone Techie.

Yahoo news reports that after interviewing 12 or 13 candidates they didn’t like, Page and Brin happened to make something of a social visit to Apple and Jobs.

After the visit, the Google cofounders met with investor John Doerr and asked him: why can’t we hire that guy? Read more…

Verizon iPhone is Confirmed for Early 2011

When Verizon announced it would begin selling the iPad in its stores, albeit with a MiFi hotspot device for 3G connectvity, we said that this was the final signal, that after all the other signs earlier this year, Verizon would be getting the iPhone in early 2011. Still, there has been no official word.

We still don’t have it, but we have the next best thing: Fortune, in an interview piece with Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg, says it has confirmed that a Verizon iPhone will be released in early 2011.

Earlier signals that a Verizon iPhone were coming included the following big sign” AT&T’s “generosity” with giving its customers early upgrades to the iPhone 4 (which we noted would lock them in for two more years).

That to us, was a key signal that Verizon would be getting the iPhone, and we said at the time we thought it pointed to an early 2011 release, as the customers who got Read more…

VLC Media Player for iPhone and iPod touch Now Available for Download

VLC, the very popular media player for Windows, Mac and Linux which was ported to the Apple iPad in September and also to the iPhone last week, may very soon (too soon if you ask me) be gone from the App Store because of of copyright infringement.

Apple has been sent a formal notification of copyright infringement regarding the way VLC for iOS is distributed in the App Store.

Rémi Denis-Courmont, one of the primary developers of VLC, explained to MacStories that Apple’s iTunes Terms and Conditions don’t allow users to install both free and paid apps on more than 5 devices. This goes against the original GNU license VLC’s code is based on. Read more…

Young girl fools would-be kidnapper into thinking her iPod touch is an iPhone

A 12-year-old girl used some quick thinking and an iPod touch to scare off a potential kidnapper. The incident happened in Delaware, at around 6:10 PM Wednesday evening.

The unnamed (as she is a minor) girl told investigators that a man driving a white van entered the Stanton Middle School driveway and pulled up next to her. He then told her to “get in the van.” Holding up her iPod touch, she told the man that she had dialed 911. Mistaking the iPod touch for an iPhone, he drove off.

The suspect is described as a white male, 35 – 45 years of age, with dark crew-cut styled hair. He was wearing a dark sweatshirt and was driving a white work van. Read more…

The white iPhone 4 disappears from Apple's online store

As speculation runs rampant that Apple may in fact be cancelling, rather than delaying, the white version of the iPhone 4, more evidence that the Cupertino company my have decided to give up on the white version has emerged. The white iPhone 4 has disappeared from Apple’s online store.

Prior to this the white iPhone 4 appeared on Apple’s order pages, but was noted as being “unavailable for order.” Apple hasn’t totally cleansed the site of the white iPhone 4, however. You can still find it in the iPhone 4′s image gallery, and it’s still pictured among some of the iPhone 4′s accessories.

The white iPhone 4 has been delayed for months, with not much comment from Apple as far as exactly why. Theories have run from a mismatch between the white color of the Home button to an issue with Read more…

Apple faces iPad trademark battle with Chinese firm over the iPad Name

Apple faces legal action over iPad name

Proview, a Taiwanese-owned company which owns the trademark for “iPad” China says it will sue Apple for infringing on its ownership in that market, according a report in the Financial Times. Nearly a decade ago, Proview tried unsuccessfully to market a tablet computer it called “I-Pad.”

“We will sue them for damages in China and in the US,” Yang Rongshan, Proview’s chairman, told the Financial Times.

Although the product failed, the company trademarked the name “IPAD” in the E.U., China, Mexico, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam at different times between the years 2000 and 2004. FT notes that trademark databases validate Proview’s claim.

In 2006, Proview reportedly sold the global trademark (except, Proview said, in China) to a U.S. company named IP Application Development, for $55,100. It turns out, however, that IP Application Development was really Read more…

Verizon Wireless will start selling iPad on October 28, WiFi version only

Back on October 14th I have written an article about the Apple iPad coming to Verizon / Verizon Wireless will start selling Apple iPad on October 28th. In this article I’m being little negative about the new Verizon iPad deal, their Broadband Plans, charges, devices, etc.

Well, today is that day… Starting today (Oct. 28th, 2010), Verizon Wireless and AT&T companies will start selling the iPad directly from their stores. At the Verizon Wireless the iPad will be sold in three different packages starting from $629, $729 and going up to $829.

I have some bad news for all Verizon Wireless customers who were waiting for the Verizon iPad and thought this day would never come

Here is the kicker, Verizon Wireless will sell the WiFi-only iPad (NOT 3G) but to make you somewhat happy and to give you ability to have internet connection anywhere, the company (Verizon Wireless) will provide you with a free contract-less Mobile Internet MiFi device which will create a Read more…
