TUTORIAL – How to Put Your Apple TV 2G Into DFU Mode
The all new PwnageTool 4.1.1 brings support for the 2nd-generation Apple TV. You can use it to create your own custom firmware files for Apple TV 2G which in future will allow you to install third party apps from Cydia.
Part of the Jailbreak process will require you to place your Apple TV 2G into the DFU mode and a lot you asked me for instructions on how to get this accomplished.
You can follow these are instructions on how to put your Apple TV 2G into DFU mode, this is the easiest way to put your Apple TV into the DFU mode.
Step One
Connect your Apple TV to the power outlet and to your computer via a Micro-USB cable.
Step Two
Hold down the Menu and Down buttons on your remote for about six seconds until the light on the device begins to blink rapidly.
Step Three
Let go of both buttons then press and hold the Menu and Play buttons together for another six seconds, then release.
Step Four
iTunes will then detect the device in DFU mode and at this point you will be able to restore your Apple TV 2G to a custom firmware 4.1 file.
Start iTunes, click on your device icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button.
This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your custom firmware 4.1 file. Select the required custom .ipsw file and click on “Open”.
