iOS 4.2 on iPhone 3G: Performance Test [Video]

Back in June when Apple came out with their huge iOS update iOS 4.0 and 4.0.1, 4.0.2 many iPhone 3G users have updated right away and found their devices very “laggy” and in many way the iPhone 3G was unusable and pretty much bastardized by the LAG and all the other issues with the iOS 4.0.

The iPhone 3G was pretty much crippled after the 4.0 or higher update was installed on the iPhone 3G device. Even something as simple as “typing” was (and still IS) very slow (Laggy) and simply frustrating to all iPhone 3G users.

Word got to Apple about all the issues with new iOS 4.0 and the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G devices and later on, Steve Jobs confirmed and promised that new iOS 4.1 will fix many of these issues but even after the iOS 4.1 was released to public many iPhone 3G users still found their devices to be unusable due to the lag and just overall performance was crappy.

As you all know, Apple has released the new iOS 4.2 GM Firmwares to Developers last week and the seeds on the new iOS 4.2 GM Firmwares are all over the web for anybody to download and try out on their iDevices. You can actually find all iOS 4.2 GM Firmwares right here on iPhone Techie in the article / link listed below.

Anyways, folks at TiPB have updated one of their iPhone 3G devices and ran a performance test on the new iOS 4.2 GM to see how it compares with iOS 4.0 and 4.1. Their Thought??? Watch this video to see what they found. Read more…

FaceTime is Coming Soon to a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS Near You ! [Video]

Hey all iPhone 3Gs users, are you feeling left out with the whole “Apple Face Time” thing? Don’t worry about it because guys at “iPhone Islam dot com” have a fix for you and it will be available via Cydia in couple of days.

The app or this tweak will be called “FaceIt-3G” and it will be offered for free of charge through Cydia. Currently the iPhone Islam team is working on testing and getting rid of all the bugs in this release but the main thing they are still working in is the use of the rear camera on the iPhone 3Gs.

Obviously iPhone 3GS is now equipped with a front camera so only the rear camera will be used on the iPhone 3Gs with this tweak. Read more…

Hulu Plus exits private beta, expands preview to all

Back in June I wrote an article on Hulu Plus which back then came out with the support access to iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices. Back in June you could only subscribe to Hulu paid service via invitation from the company.

On Thursday morning Hulu Plus has opened their so called “invitation only” service to all via blog post on Hulu’s website. Just like I said before, until now, anyone interested in Hulu’s pay service had to have an invitation.

In addition, Hulu announced the availability of Hulu Plus on Sony BRAVIA 2010 TVs. They added that the service will be expanding to other BRAVIA devices in the (near) future.

Additionally, in the next week, all PS3 owners with a PlayStation Network account will be able to download and subscribe to Hulu Plus, coinciding with an updated PS3 app. Read more…

First Look at Updated Cydia for iOS 4.2 Jailbreak

In the beginning of this week on November 2nd I have written an article about the new iOS 4.2 Jailbreak delay due to Cydia not being ready and / or compatible with the new Operating System / Firmware iOS 4.2.

The main issue was the fact that Cydia is not compatible with the new iOS 4.2 Applications, .deb packages and basically just doesn’t work with the new iOS 4.2 system, period…

So after trying the new iOS 4.2 GM firmware and using the new Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 I was able to jailbreak my iPhone but found our pretty quick that Cydia and a lot of Jailbreaking Apps / .deb packages were completely broken.

Our good friend’s iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd tweet today is giving us a little bit of a hope because he said; both chpwn and saurik are burning the midnight oil to get it working as soon as possible.

Here is a screenshot of the new updated Cydia and looking at this screen it definitely looks like it is in fact being updated. The GUI looks totally different. Read more…

iOS 4.2 Untethered Jailbreak May Be Delayed Because Cydia is Not Yet Ready for the New Firmware

November 2nd, 2010 No comments

iOS 4.2 Jailbreak Might be delayed due to Cydia not being ready

Hey guys I have some bad news for all Jailbreakers out there who are anxiously waiting on the iOS 4.2 since the iPhone Dev Team said it could be Jailbroken right after Apple releases it.

According to a tweet from Comex the iOS 4.2 jailbreak may be delayed because Cydia is not yet ready for the new firmware and so as a result, the next update for Limera1n based iOS 4.2 jailbreak might be delayed but he didn’t really say anything else about it. At this point there is no estimated release date for the new iOS 4.2 Jailbreak but I’m sure it won’t be too long.

This would be a good time for all of you to save your SHSH blobs on your iPhones, iPads or iPod Touch devices running on iOS 4.1, tutorial is at the end of this article.
However, a 4.2 jailbreak might be delayed because Cydia doesn’t work on 4.2 yet. Not sure how close @chpwn is to finishing his fixes. Read more…
