If you are using a hactivated iPhone, as in, you are running your iPhone 3.x on an unauthorized carrier, then Push Notifications functionality most probably won’t work properly.

There are few fixes available in market, prominent ones include “PushFix” via iPhoneil available in Cydia, but it wasn’t a proper solution and it stopped working after a while as it used a single certificate for many users causing wrong push notifications and battery drainage issues.

Later came PushFix Ver.2 which actually worked very well, basically the error/issue which was rectified in new release was that you get a unique certificate for your hactivated iPhone against your mobile EMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity).

Only problem in PushFix Ver.2 you may feel would be it’s not being a free fix, but no worries! “Push Doctor” another push notifications fix has been released and what matters is that it’s free! and has the support of iPhone Dev-Team as well. Like PushFix Ver.2, Push Doctor also issues a unique certificate for each device.

If you need Push Notifications functionality on firmware 3.1.3, then you should use Push Doctor to have it.

Follow following steps to enable Push Notifications on iPhone 2G/3G/3GS running iPhone firmware 3.1.3, please note that you will need to have fully jailbroked and unlocked iphone operational on firmware 3.1.3.

BEFORE YOU START:::

There shouldn’t be any “push-capable apps” installed on your iPhone, you need to uninstall all Push-capable apps from your iPhone, if there are any. Also if you already have previous Cydia PushFix, it’s recommended to restore firmware 3.1.3 on your iPhone and start from beginning.

1. Tap / Start Cydia Installer, once in Cydia go to Manage Tab (located at the bottom) and touch Sources (big button in the middle)
NOTE: You will be adding a repository / source in Cydia

2. Tap on Edit (at the top right corner) and then tap Add (at the top left corner) You will be asked to enter Cydia/APT URL source as you see it in the screen-shot below. Type  http://cmdshft.ipwn.me/apt/ and then tap Add Source button. Once source is added press Return to Cydia button and then tap Done button.

NOTE: You can also add SiNfuL iPhone Repository and install it from there. Type “http://www.sinfuliphonerepo.com” and touch on “Add Source”.

3. Once you have competed the step above and the source is added tap on Search Tab (located at the bottom) and search for Push Doctor, you should see it on your screen just like the example below shows it. Once you see it one the screen / in the search result tap on it. At the next screen tap Install button and then Confirm button (at the top right corner).

4. Once the “Push Fix” app is installed you will need to Restart your iPhone before you install any “push-capable apps” your iPhone.

5. That’s all, you can now download any Push Capable App via App Store like IM+, Beejive IM, Ping or Boxcar. Push notifications should work fine on all apps.

A new app has been released for iPhone and iPod touch which lets you record all the action happening on your iPhone screen so that you can share it with your friends and colleagues. ScreenRecorder – this app can be very useful in situations where you want to record a tutorial, demo or demonstration for sharing it on your blog, family and friends.

This application let’s you take video captures of your screen. This is extremely useful for quick tutorials or demonstrations, or when you want to show proof of a new hack you have accomplished. There are obviously many other uses for this. For example, you could use this like a “Notes” application but with video instead of words!

This small app uses lots of resources during screen recording, don’t be too surprised if it crashes a lot, specially on iPod touch 2G and iPhone 3G both of which have less RAM when compared to iPhone 3GS.

NOTE: You must have a Jailbroken iPhone or iTouch in order to use this App…

I personally didn’t like it, but in case you want to try this app before you buy it and get disappointed you can try the Cracked Version of it for free. You can download it form the “SiNfuL iPhone” Repository in Cydia.

The SiNfuL iPhone Repo is an Awesome Source… This source / repository has all kinds of Paid, Premium Applications already cracked and ready for you to use.

NOTE: These applications are cracked and 100% free for you to download, install and use, but as I always tell people, please don’t take advantage of these repositories, please use these cracked games and applications for testing purposes. If you like the application or a game please consider paying for it.

I’m not telling you what to do, but I am telling you that I don’t support nor encourage you to download cracked apps, hack or crack any iPhone or iTouch applications of games. Use them for testing purposes, if you don’t like the app then no big deal, delete it. If you like it and would like to keep using it please buy it.

Saurik has uploaded a new version of APT that has an optimized cache generator and greatly improves Cydia performance. This APT update which has significantly improved slow, and painful loading times in Cydia.
Generator has also been optimized so that Cydia doesn’t take an hour reloading.

“I also uploaded a new version of APT I’ve been working on: it has an optimized cache generator and more error tolerant repository parsing.”

When launching Cydia the next time you will be prompted to update to the new version of APT. Perform the install and enjoy the speed improvements!

To get this update, simply start Cydia and it will prompt you for an Essential Upgrade. Tap on “Upgrade Essential” and then follow the subsequent steps to get the update. Or tap Complete upgrade for all components and updates to be applied at the same time.

Many of you asked me if there was / is a way to downgrade iPhones from 05.12.01 back to 05.11.07 or 04.26.08.

Well there is one way to downgrade your basebands but it only works for 3G iPhones, if you have a 3Gs iPhone and you have upgraded to the latest 3.1.3 Firmware through iTunes, then your basebands were upgraded as well and at this point there is nothing you can do to unlock your device.

The following instructions will only help you downgrade iPhone 3G which is currently on iPhone OS 3.1.3 with 05.12.01 baseband and older bootloader 05.08. This wont work with iPhone 3GS.

If your iPhone meets the above criteria, you can then use the latest version of Fuzzyband which supports iPhone 3.1.3 to downgrade your 05.12.01 baseband to the older 04.26.08 even if you accidently upgraded to the stock iPhone OS 3.1.3 from iTunes.

Once you have downgraded your baseband, you can then use ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone on iPhone 3.1.3 firmware. Here’s how you do it.

Downgrading only works on phones that have the 05.08 (5.8) Bootloader from the factory. This is a very limited number of phones that were released in the first few weeks of the 3G production cycle. If you do not know your bootloader then you can run Fuzzyband and it will report the version number for you.

Step 1: To downgrade your baseband from 05.12.01 to 04.26.08, you must first jailbreak your iPhone 3G running firmware 3.1.3

Step 2: After you have jailbroken your iPhone, Go to “Cydia” on your iPhone and Search for “Fuzzyband” and then install this application.

Step 3: Start “Fuzzyband” app and touch on “Downgrade” button to downgrade your Baseband from 05.12.01 to 04.26.08.

Step 4: You should now be able to perfectly unlock your iPhone 3G using the latest version of ultrasn0w

As we all know Appulo.us was shut down by “Kyek” – the owner and creator of the site. The Appulo.us was a great site for downloading the IPA files for iPhone and iTouch devices, it was very popular, clean and easy to navigate.

I am considering picking up where Kyek left off and starting the same type of community IPA download and upload site.

Kyek made a promise to the comunity that if the site were ever to get shut down by him or anyone else, He would release the source code.

The promise I made back when I started Appulous was that, if the site were ever to get shut down by me or anyone else, I would release the source code. I also promised, on a few different occasions to a few different people, to provide the database (without user data — I have folks’ privacy to protect). Note that these are for educational purposes only. If you try to use it, the consequences are on you.

Well, we have the source code for the entire site and the latest – final database of all Apps/IPAs. I’m in the process of upgrading the iPhoneTechie.com from WP to Joomla CMS so once I’m done with the conversion I will start on the Appulo.us source code and database installation and integration.

In past 6 Months, iPhoneTechie.com has grown from a rather small “blog type” site into a very busy / high traffic website.

It was a lot of fun starting this blog and running it on daily basis but with the amount of traffic, news, downloads, tutorials, etc. it is becoming little hectic to administer.

As you can probably see, I have not been updating or posting much of anything on this blog for couple of weeks now…

Between December 1st 2009 and January 31st 2010 there were 1203 comments through out the site — Thats ONE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED THREE COMMENTS!!! All comments have to be approved by me before they can be posted (Because of SPAM) so as you can only imagine it takes a lot of time just to do that…

To continue providing same Services, Content, Tutorials, News, Downloads, etc. I will be moving iPhoneTechie.com to a much robust engine and making it into a CMS (Content Management System) instead of a blog. The CMS Engine I chose is Joomla!!!

With Joomla 1.5 I can implement a lot of new and different features and many useful extensions can be added to the site for the ultimate end user (YOU) experience.

Once the new site is up and running you will be able to see a Big difference in many ways. Loading time will be a lot faster, related articles will come up as you browse through each article, downloads will be easier to administer and much simpler to find.

You will love the new site, I guarantee it…

WARNING! On February 2nd 2010 Apple released the 3.1.3 version (7E18) of the iPhone and iTouch OS. Jailbreakers DO NOT UPDATE!!!

If you care about your jailbreak and unlock, don’t update your device - 3G and 3G(S) owners should pay particular attention to this warning

Apple just released OS 3.1.3, which you can download right now through iTunes. The new firmware update (3.1.3) was pushed on Tuesday February 2nd, 2010 for all iPhone and iPod touch users which brought some important security and bug fixes.

Features wise, there was nothing new to be seen in the firmware. The only new features mentioned are improved reporting of battery level on the iPhone 3G S, fixes for problems with the Japanese Kana keyboard, and some issues where third-party apps would fail to launch.

Since this firmware updates the baseband to 05.12.01 on iPhone 3GS and 3G, so do not update your device (iPhone or iTouch) to this firmware if you want to preserve your unlock on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

Upgrading to new iPhone firmware OS version 3.1.3 would break existing jailbreak and unlock. iPhone and iPod touch owners who jailbreak and unlock their device should not upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3.

To upgrade iPhone and iPod Touch just connect the mobile device to PC and start iTunes. You would get the update message message automatically. Download the the individual standalone iPhone Firmware Update file (IPSW) for manual offline updating from our Firmware Downloads Page

Last year and for the last couple of months, there were lot of speculations about the Apple’s upcoming tablet device. Some of them were controversial and some were legit but the at the end of the day Apple came through once again and made something more advanced than anything out there.

This morning, Steve Jobs finally brought an end to all the rumors by unveiling iPad at Yara Buena Center in San Francisco. Here is what you all need to know about Apple iPad.

The details on upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 have been leaked and now some of these details are posted on BoyGeniousReport.

Here are some of the details / iPhone OS 4.0 features according the their trusted source;

• There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)

• “A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.

• Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.

• The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”

• The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.

The upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 firmware is expected to be announced at Apple’s special event on January 27th

Tips:
