How to put your Apple TV 2G into the DFU Mode

The all new PwnageTool 4.1.1 brings support for the 2nd-generation Apple TV. You can use it to create your own custom firmware files for Apple TV 2G which in future will allow you to install third party apps from Cydia.

Part of the Jailbreak process will require you to place your Apple TV 2G into the DFU mode and a lot you asked me for instructions on how to get this accomplished.

You can follow these are instructions on how to put your Apple TV 2G into DFU mode, this is the easiest way to put your Apple TV into the DFU mode. Read more…

Apple TV has been Jailbroken using Greenpois0n and Hacked to Inject Third Party Software

Apple TV Jailbreak is coming soon, Greenpoison Tool with Injection Exploit

Well this is not a big surprise (at least not to me) but we all saw this coming! Remember when Geohot (a.k.a. George Hotz) shared his Limera1n exploit with Chronic Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team to use in the Greenpois0n Jailbreak tool?

Well it was put to a good use. The Apple TV 2 has been hacked to inject third party software via an unreleased version of Greenpois0n.

The limera1n exploit based GreenPois0n tool has finally jailbroken the 2nd-generation Apple TV. Members of Chronic Dev Team posted an image as a proof, showing a custom loader with a background on the Apple TV, running iOS 4.1.

If you are a Cydia developer; this will open a big opportunity for you to make apps, tweaks, games in the coming weeks and months! This will also give opportunity to me to crack all the .deb files and provide them to all of you guys free of charge in my tutorials and download articles.

Apple TV (New 2G / 2010 Version) was Jailbroken with the new Limera1n Jailbreak

Limera1n Jailbreak will jailbreak the new Apple TV (CONFIRMED)

As we all know for past couple of weeks MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev-Team was showing off the GreenPois0n Jailbreak solution that was going to come out today Sunday (Funday) October 10th, 2010 at 10:10:10am and in some videos MuscleNerd demonstrated that he infact did Jailbreak his Apple TV with the GreenPois0n.

Since GeoHot decided to release his Limera1n Jailbreak (Which uses different exploit than SHAtter / GreenPois0n) to feed his big ego the GreenPois0n Jailbreak project was put on hold so both exploits would not be revealed and patched by Apple at the same time.

Well we knew some users out there will try to Jailbreak their Apple TV 2G with the Limra1n Jailbreak that was released by GeoHot yesterday and some of them did it.

Erica Sadun from the TUAW has confirmed that she was able to jailbreak her Apple TV with Limera1n; however, it does not install OpenSSH at this time, so not much can be done with it.

The Limera1n page has updated to indicate that Apple TV jb is “technically supported”. I can confirm that I put my ATV2 into DFU mode and was able to “jailbreak” it. But since no AFC services or OpenSSH were installed (let alone APT), there’s nothing that really can be done with it at this time. Read more…

Apple TV is Selling Out in U.S. Apple Stores, iPhoneTechie.com is now a proud owner of the new Apple TV unit

Apple TV is sold out but iPhoneTechie.com has one.

iPhoneTechie.com is a proud owner of the new Apple TV 2010 2nd generation model.

I got really lucky this afternoon when I called three of our local Apple Stores asking them the same questions I have been asking for past 2 weeks; “Do you have any new Apple TV 2010 / 2nd Generation Models in Stock?” and everyday I have gotten the same answer back; “Sorry Sir, we’re sold out and have no idea when the next shipment will come in“.

Today was my lucky day, after calling three different Apple Stores I have decided to give it another try. One of the Apple stores just received a shipment of the new Apple TV units and I was one of the lucky customers who just happened to be close enough to this particular store to get one.

JMP Research analyst Alex Gauna writes this morning that the new Apple TV is selling out in many of Apple’s U.S. retail stores, according to Barrons.

“We were not particularly surprised when we couldn’t get our hands on the Apple TV over this past introductory weekend in San Francisco, but

SHUtter Jailbreak for Apple TV confirmed by iPhone Dev Team

Members of the iPhone Dev Team have dropped hints on Twitter that it will be possible to jailbreak the new Apple TV.

Team members pod2g and iPhone-Dev have both mentioned that the SHAtter exploit has been able to decrypt the Apple TV’s firmware’s keys. While Apple TVs are not yet in people’s hands, the firmware is available from Apple’s public distribution servers.

Team Member MuscleNerd also warned potential jailbreakers via Twitter: “Those interested in *potential* AppleTV JBs, better buy early! Remember iPhone 3GS hardware was updated to fix JB hole.” Indeed, Apple has already released a firmware update for the Apple TV, though we don’t know if it addresses this exploit. Read more…
