Consumer Reports Says It Can't Recommend the Verizon iPhone 4 Either Just like the first GSM iPhone 4

Consumer Reports has issued a statement on the Verizon iPhone saying that it cannot recommend the device due to compromised performance in low-signal conditions.

As noted earlier, there have not been widespread reports of reception difficulties with the Verizon iPhone 4, and Verizon’s network, unlike AT&T’s, has received above-average scores from our readers for the reliability of its voice service in the past. (Those scores reflect data gathered before the launch of the Verizon iPhone 4.)

But given our findings, we believe the possibility exists for individual users to experience the problem since low signal conditions are unavoidable when using any cell-phone network. Read more…

Verizon iPhone is Confirmed for Early 2011

When Verizon announced it would begin selling the iPad in its stores, albeit with a MiFi hotspot device for 3G connectvity, we said that this was the final signal, that after all the other signs earlier this year, Verizon would be getting the iPhone in early 2011. Still, there has been no official word.

We still don’t have it, but we have the next best thing: Fortune, in an interview piece with Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg, says it has confirmed that a Verizon iPhone will be released in early 2011.

Earlier signals that a Verizon iPhone were coming included the following big sign” AT&T’s “generosity” with giving its customers early upgrades to the iPhone 4 (which we noted would lock them in for two more years).

Verizon is hiring help for the iPhone Launch

Verizon may have begun its preparations for the launch of the iPhone on its network, according to a CNET report. As you will see (in this article) there is a job application for the Verizon customer service type positions and also a very detailed description of this particular position.

The hiring companies, Salt Lake City-based Teleperformance and Kennesaw, Ga.-based Ryla, are hiring at facilities around the country, with Ryla advertising for 1,700 positions in Indiana, California, Virginia, and Colorado.

Though few of the job postings specify which company the new employees will be taking calls for, Teleperformance’s Careerbuilder post says employees in Pennsylvania will field calls for a “major wireless cell phone service retailer.”

Verizon iPhone is coming this year and new iPhone next year

Today the WSJ reported that Apple will begin production of a Verzion iPhone this year, and that the fifth generation iPhone will have a new form factor.

The new iPhone would be similar in design to the iPhone 4 currently sold by AT&T Inc. but would be based on an alternative wireless technology called CDMA used by Verizon, these people said. The phone, for which Qualcomm Inc. is providing a key chip, is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year, according to the same people.

Separately, Apple is also developing a new iPhone model, said people briefed on the matter. One person familiar with the new iPhone plan said the fifth-generation iPhone will be a different form factor from those that are currently available. It was unclear how soon that version will be available to Verizon
