AT&T has issued a statement on iPhone 4 pre-order sales saying the numbers were 10 times higher than the numbers for the iPhone 3GS and that they are suspending pre-ordering today.

Apple today has issued a statement in which they have stated that more than 600,000 iPhone 4s have been pre-ordered through Apple and its carrier partners yesterday.

iPhone 4 pre-order sales yesterday were 10-times higher than the first day of pre-ordering for the iPhone 3G S last year. Consumers are clearly excited about iPhone 4, AT&T’s more affordable data plans and our early upgrade pricing.

Given this unprecedented demand and our current expectations for our iPhone 4 inventory levels when the device is available June 24, we’re suspending pre-ordering today in order to fulfill the orders we’ve already received.

The availability of additional inventory will determine if we can resume taking pre-orders.

In addition to unprecedented pre-order sales, yesterday there were more than 13 million visits to AT&T’s website where customers can check to see if they are eligible to upgrade to a new phone; that number is about 3-times higher than the previous record for eligibility upgrade checks in one day.

We are working hard to bring iPhone 4 to as many of our customers as soon as possible.

Apple updated their site and added an Online Store option to pre-order the iPhone 4 today, and its servers can’t handle the traffic either, or maybe AT&T’s.

I just tried to pre-order mine, and got this error message. A quick google search tells me we’re not alone on this one either.

It does seems like it’s probably an AT&T issue because it’s mostly giving out the errors when it was asking me for my AT&T account information to see if I was eligible for an upgrade

IF you see this error while trying to pre-order your iPhone 4 on Apple.com / Apple Online Store then you’re not alone.

Like many of you; I have been trying to “Pre-Order” my iPhone 4 this morning and all day since 4:00am and every time I pick an option to upgrade my existing iPhone I get the same message:

There was a problem with your request.

P1015: We’re sorry, but we are experiencing a system error that prevents us from completing your request.
I called AT&T and they said that their processing servers are down and should be back online soon. It has been way too long and servers are still down.

Keep Trying because some people had success ordering and upgrading their iPhones…

Best Pricing Immediately Available to Any iPhone Customer Eligible for Upgrade in 2010 Preordering for iPhone 4 and New $99 iPhone 3GS 8GB Available June 15 at AT&T Retail and Online Stores

AT&T*, the U.S. smartphone leader, today announced it will offer iPhone 4, the thinnest smartphone ever with all-new design, FaceTime video calling, Apple’s stunning new Retina display, 5 megapixel camera and HD video recording. iPhone 4 will be available for a suggested retail price of $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model, in company retail stores and online at www.att.com/iphone, plus business channels, beginning June 24. Customers can preorder starting June 15.

To let current iPhone customers quickly upgrade to iPhone 4, AT&T will make its best pricing immediately available to any iPhone customer who would be upgrade eligible for a discounted device by the end of 2010.

“This is another very exciting day for AT&T customers,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “By teaming with Apple to deliver an extraordinary device over the nation’s fastest 3G network, we’re enabling our customers to access their favorite social networks and favorite business applications.”

“We know that people are eager to get iPhone 4, which is why we moved up the upgrade eligibility date for current iPhone customers by up to six months. This move, combined with the new wireless data plans we announced last week, will make it more affordable for more people to purchase an iPhone and enjoy the benefits of the mobile Internet.”

In addition, a new iPhone 3GS 8GB for $99 will also be available on June 24.

Pricing
iPhone 4 and the new iPhone 3GS 8GB will be available at a variety of attractive price points for customers:

All new and current iPhone customers who are upgrade eligible, plus existing customers who choose to upgrade early must agree to a two-year term commitment, and select an eligible voice and data plan for iPhone. No Commitment pricing does not require a two-year term commitment, but does require both voice and data service.

AT&T will also offer current iPhone 3GS 16GB and 32GB models at new, lowered price points of $149 (16GB) and $199 (32GB), with a two year term commitment plus voice and data plans, while supplies last.

Eligibility
Existing iPhone customers eligible for an upgrade between today and the end of this year, have been made immediately eligible for AT&T’s best pricing for iPhone 4 with a new two-year term commitment. Consumers can verify upgrade eligibility at www.att.com/iphone today.
Reports that AT&T is to end its unlimited data plan for iPhone users are true — but existing customers won’t be affected, the giant US network rushed to let customers know today.

Back in the December of last year (2009) I wrote an article on this and it was just a “rumor” back then but now it’s a reality. You can read the December Article HERE if you wish.

Writing on its Facebook page, the carrier says, “The good news for current customers who love their unlimited plan is this: they are not required to switch, even when it’s time to upgrade to a new phone. So you are welcome to keep your unlimited plan ”

At issue is AT&T’s announcement of new capped data plans. Under these the network has eliminated its $30/month unlimited plan for new iPhone customers starting on June 7th.

Instead, new iPhone customers can select either a $15/month (200MB) or $25/month (2GB) data plans.

Existing iPhone customers though can hang onto their existing $30/month plan even if they choose to upgrade to a new model.

Similar changes have been applied against iPad plans. After just two months AT&T is dropping the $29.99 unlimited data plan for new purchasers to replace it with a $25 for 2GB of data over 30 days plan.

Here is some text from the AT&T’s NEWS ROOM… Here is the Link for the entire AT&T article.

AT&T*, the U.S. smartphone leader, today introduced new wireless data plans that make it more affordable for more people to enjoy the benefits of the mobile Internet. Customers can pick the new data plan that best meets their needs – either a $15 per month entry plan or a $25 per month plan with 10 times more data. Current smartphone customers are not required to switch to the new plans, but can choose to do so without a contract extension.

“AT&T helps mobilize everything on the Internet – your favorite web sites, TV shows, music, games and social networks. Virtually everything previously done while sitting at a computer can now be done on the go,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “To give more people the opportunity to experience these benefits, we’re breaking free from the traditional ‘one-size-fits-all’ pricing model and making the mobile Internet more affordable to a greater number of people.”

Each plan includes unlimited access at no additional charge to more than 20,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots in the U.S. Customers can also use unlimited Wi-Fi at home, in the office or elsewhere if available. AT&T will also help customers manage their wireless data usage by sending free text messages after customers reach different usage intervals and by providing online tools, including a smartphone app that shows monthly usage information.

The new wireless data plans – including a new tethering option – will be available beginning June 7. Current AT&T voice and texting plans are unchanged.

More Choice

The new AT&T plans provide large amounts of data to enable people to enjoy their favorite online activities:

DataPlus. Provides 200 megabytes (MB) of data – for example, enough to send/receive 1,000 emails (no attachments), plus send/receive 150 emails with attachments, plus view 400 Web pages, plus post 50 photos on social media sites, plus watch 20 minutes of streaming video – for just $15 per month.** This plan, which can save customers up to 50 percent off their wireless data charges, is designed for people who primarily like to surf the web, send email and use social networking apps. If customers exceed 200 MB in a monthly billing cycle, they will receive an additional 200 MB of data usage for $15 for use in the cycle. Currently, 65 percent of AT&T smartphone customers use less than 200 MB of data per month on average.

DataPro. Provides 2 gigabytes (GB) of data – for example, enough to send/receive 10,000 emails (no attachments), plus send/receive 1,500 emails with attachments, plus view 4,000 Web pages, plus post 500 photos to social media sites, plus watch 200 minutes of streaming video – for $25 per month.** Should a customer exceed 2 GB during a billing cycle, they will receive an additional 1 GB of data for $10 for use in the cycle. Currently, 98 percent of AT&T smartphone customers use less than 2 GB of data a month on average.

Tethering. Smartphone customers – including iPhone customers – who choose the DataPro plan have the option to add tethering for an additional $20 per month. Tethering lets customers use their smartphones as a modem to provide a broadband connection for laptop computers, netbooks or other computing devices. Tethering for iPhones will be available when Apple releases iPhone OS 4 this summer.

With the new wireless data plans, pricing for a smartphone voice and data bundle now starts at just $54.99 per month for an individual plan, or $24.99 per month for an additional line on a FamilyTalk plan, $15 per month less than the price of the previous entry level bundle.

For new iPad customers, the $25 per month 2 GB plan will replace the existing $29.99 unlimited plan. iPad customers will continue to pre-pay for their wireless data plan and no contract is required. Existing iPad customers who have the $29.99 per month unlimited plan can keep that plan or switch to the new $25 per month plan with 2 GB of data.

Wi-Fi at 20,000 AT&T Hot Spots

The vast majority of smartphones that AT&T offers have built-in Wi-Fi, which lets the devices automatically switch from the wireless network to a Wi-Fi hotspot without prompting, making Wi-Fi even more convenient and easy to use. This enables customers to use Wi-Fi in the home, office and at public locations where available. Wi-Fi will generally provide consistently fast speeds and does not count against a customer’s monthly data plan usage total. In addition, virtually all AT&T smartphone customers have access at no additional charge to more than 20,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots in the U.S. Customers can get more information on how to use Wi-Fi and find the location of AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots at www.att.com/wifiaccess.

Monitoring and Managing Usage

To help customers easily check their data usage, AT&T has made the information readily available in a number of ways***:

Customer Text Notifications On Data Usage. When customers begin to approach their monthly usage limit, AT&T will send three text notifications – after they reach 65 percent, 90 percent and 100 percent of the threshold. Customers will also be sent emails if AT&T has their email address.

Data Usage Monitoring. Additionally, customers with iPhones and other select devices can use the free AT&T myWireless application to check data usage. The application is available for download in several smartphone app stores. Also, AT&T customers can call *DATA# from their wireless phone to check their data usage for the current billing period. They receive a free text message with their usage information. Customers can also go online to www.att.com/wireless to see all of their usage information, past and present.

Data Calculator. The easy-to-use online data calculator enables customers to estimate their mobile data usage and get a better sense for which data plan is right for them. It’s located at www.att.com/datacalculator.

Customers use their iPhones too much and have caused network problems in markets where their popularity is huge.

You know who you are: the ones who check out every application, play every game, call up every piece of news and check out every restaurant within 100 miles.

You are causing AT&T a big problem.

AT&T offers Unlimited Access and Bandwidth usage to all iPhone users and all of us have signed either one or two year contracts with AT&T. If they even try to pull anything like this I will take my iPhone and move it to another GSM like T-Mobile.

Jailbreaking and Unlocking will be HOT again, all AT&T customers will be switching to other providers and unlocking their iPhones.

I personally think this is a bunch of SHIT!!! iPhone users are exceeding no quota regardless of how much data is used. The plan is unlimited. If AT&T was not prepared to handle this then they should not have agreed to it… If this is a big problem then why are they still offering it today?

Although this is my site, I will keep this article clean… I do have a lot of other words that can “REALLY / TRULY” Describe these A#$@HOLES and Scumbags

The solution is very simple… Jailbreak and Unlock your iPhone and go to T-Mobile… AT&T is already priced pretty high, and iPhone users are not the cause of this crappy situation AT&T is in.

Below is the article from MSN

The entire article can be found here;

You know who you are: the ones who check out every application, play every game, call up every piece of news and check out every restaurant within 100 miles.

You are causing AT&T a big problem. You’re swamping the system, and AT&T, which has an exclusive right to market the iPhone in the United States, wants you to get a life and dial back.

How AT&T plans to get you to cut back isn’t quite clear, The Wall Street Journal said today. But they won’t slap you around. They’ll offer incentives.

AT&T’s problem is a problem for everyone in the wireless industry: how to cope with exponential growth in the use of data services such as video and Internet browsing, which require more bandwidth.

The dilemma, the Journal noted, has been particularly acute for AT&T because of the millions of customers using Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone, the iconic smart phone.

IPhone users so love their phones that they use them all the time. The problem is especially big in New York and San Francisco, two of the trendiest towns around.

The rate of broken calls and data feeds has grown so fast that Verizon Communications (VZ) has launched an ad campaign to get AT&T customers to switch.

The average iPhone user consumes five to seven times more data on a monthly basis than an average subscriber who mainly uses a handset for phone calls, research firm Sanford C. Bernstein says.

Even compared with the average smart-phone user on a high-speed network, iPhone owners use twice the amount of data.

So, iPhone user, you’re too good a customer. And you cause an additional problem.

AT&T may have to invest more in network investments — switching gear, cell-phone towers and the like — because you like your iPhone so much. That may eat into AT&T’s bottom line.

Result, Toni Sacconaghi, a Bernstein analyst, told the Journal: “The economics of the iPhone are not as rosy as they might first appear.”

So, what incentives might AT&T offer? Sorry, they won’t pay you not to use your phone.

But the options include instituting usage fees that charge customers based on how much data flow through the device.

Right now, you can get a calling plan from $40 to $100 a month for an iPhone — plus $30 a month for unlimited data. The average iPhone users pays $95 a month for the service.

The telecom giant could also charge $5 to $20 a month for the right to send text messages.

It could — gasp! — slow down the data flowing to your iPhone if your usage is hurting other customers.

AT&T has tried reasoning, the Journal said. They’ve showed some users just how much data they use. Ralph de la Vega, who runs AT&T’s wireless and consumer businesses, told the paper that most had no idea and cut back on their own.

The next question is whether AT&T will have to make an offer the iPhone user can’t refuse.
