U.S. Air Force Awards $9.36 Million Contract for Purchase of up to 18,000 iPads

The U.S. Air Force awarded a $9.36 million contract for the purchase of up to 18,000 iPad 2s, reports Bloomberg. This marks one of the military’s largest purchase of tablet computers.

Apple Releases iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch - Jailbreakers STAY AWAY

Apple has released iOS 5.0.1 for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch (build number (9A405). iOS 5.0.1 is available for the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPad, and iPad 2.

Jailbreakers should stay away from this release, if you want your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to be jailbroken with the Untethered option then stay away from this update and do not update your iDevice to this version of iOS

iOS 4.3 Reveals New iPhone, iPad Models, iPhone 5 and iPad 2 References Found In iOS 4.3 Code

After digging little bit deeper into the new iOS 4.3 Beta Firmware, Engadget has found references to two new iPhone models and three new iPad models in the iOS 4.3 firmware.

If you dig far enough into iOS’s code, you’ll eventually come across iPhone3,1, which is the AT&T iPhone 4, and the analogous iPhone3,2 (i.e. Verizon iPhone). It’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but then along comes iOS 4.3 with a handful of new mystery identifiers to spurn speculation — namely, two new-generation iPhones (4,1 and 4,2) and three iPads (2,1; 2,2; and 2,3).

Its likely that the new iPhone models represent the GSM and CDMA version of the device and the three new iPad models are WiFi, GSM, and CDMA variants. Read more…

New Apple iPad 2 Will Might Start Shipping Within the Next 100 Days (by February) according to DigiTimes and PC Magazine

Foxconn plans in Shenzhen, China have reportedly been notified they will ship the Apple iPad 2 within the next 100 days, according to a DigiTimes report. I can’t wait until the new iPad 2 (Second Generation) will be released, I will be buying the day it will hit Apple Stores and / or online reservation Apple Online Store.

Initial shipments are estimated at 400,000-600,000 units, according to sources from Taiwan-based component makers.

The sources pointed out that the iPad 2 will ship as soon as the end of February in 2011. Apple originally planned to start mass production in January, but because the device’s firmware is currently still in testing, Apple has been postponing the schedule. Read more…
