Apple has pushed the iTunes 9.2 final to both windows and Mac users. iTunes 9.2 is required to activate iOS 4.0 firmware for both iPhone and iPod Touch. iTunes 9.2 is the only version compatible with iOS 4.0.

Jailbreakers *ESPECIALLY Spirit users* should stay away from iTunes 9.2 until further notice.

Don’t install today’s iTunes 9.2 if you plan on using Spirit for fresh Jailbreak (but it’s fine for PwnageTool & redsn0w users). iTunes 9.2 will sync fine with *already* spirit jailbroken devices, but it’s better to be safe and stay away. (via Dev-Team)

NOTE: If you have updated to the iTunes 9.2 and would like to downgrade back to a previous version you can do so by following this tutorial and you can also download all/any version of iTunes from our iTunes download page here

Apple has just released iTunes 9.0.2 for Windows and Mac. Other than minor bug fixes, new iTunes comes up with better utilities including improved GUI and better navigation to multimedia options, iTunes LPs, better iPhone and iPod synchronization and support for Apple TV.

iTunes 9.0.2 adds support for Apple TV software version 3.0, adds an option for a dark background for Grid View, and improves support for accessibility.

AppleTV 3.0 features a redesigned main menu, iTunes Extras, iTunes LP, Genius Mixes, Internet radio, iPhoto Events, and iPhoto Faces.

As previously reported, Apple TV 3.0 supports iTunes LP and iTunes Extras, and does so with a new look. According to Eddy Cue, Apple VP of Internet Services, the new interface “gives you instant access to your favorite content.” The new interface continues an evolution away from Apple’s other media software, Front Row.

In addition to the “widescreen” interface, Apple TV 3.0 also includes Genius Mixes, Internet radio, and photo enhancements. For the latter, users can now flip through photos grouped by event, while face recognition software similar to iPhoto puts “snapshots” of each person named on a corkboard background. It’s sort of like wanted ads at the Post Office.

As for iTunes, besides supporting Apple TV 3.0, the 90 MB update adds “an option for a dark background for Grid View, and improves support for accessibility.” What’s not mentioned in the support note is that iTunes has once again been fixed to keep Palm from leeching off Apple via the Pre syncing with iTunes. Get a life, Palm.

You can download the iTunes update by selecting Software Update from the Apple menu at the top left of your screen.

What’s New in iTunes 9.0.2

An improved look and feel, including a new Column Browser for easily browsing your artists or albums, movies, TV shows, and more.

iTunes Store has a brand new look, with improved navigation for quick and easy exploration.

iTunes LP and iTunes Extras create unique experiences that feature exclusive interviews, videos, photos, and more — available with select album and movie purchases on the iTunes Store.

Home Sharing helps you manage your family’s iTunes collection between computers in your home. iTunes can automatically transfer new purchases, or you can choose just the items you want.

Genius Mixes are created for you by iTunes and play songs from your library that go great together.

iPod and iPhone syncing now allows you to organize your iPhone and iPod touch home screens directly in iTunes. Syncing is now also more flexible, allowing you to sync individual artists, genres, or TV show and Podcast episodes.

iTunes U items are now organized into their own section in your iTunes library.

Sync with iPod nano (5th generation), iPod classic (Fall 2009), and iPod touch (Fall 2009).

iTunes 9 also includes many other improvements, such as HE-AAC encoding and playback, more flexibility with Smart Playlists rules, simpler organization of your media files inside an iTunes Media folder, and more.

JAILBREAKERS!!! You are safe to upgrade to iTunes 9.0.2 without any hesitation, it won’t effect your device jailbreak / unlock status.

So you have downloaded, upgraded and installed the new iTunes 9 on your computer just to see what it looks like and what it does and now you’re thinking, “Why did I do that?” What was I thinking?”

Don’t worry, you can safely downgrade to the previous version of iTunes (8.2.1) without loosing any of your data or your iTunes library. Here is how you can do it…

First thing you need to do is Uninstall a total of (6) items from your computer, and then restart… Uninstall all six (6) items listed below.

iTunes 9

iPhone Configuration

Apple Mobile Device Support

Apple Application Support

Apple Software Update

QuickTime (Make sure you get rid of this item)

Once all six items are removed / uninstalled don’t forget to reboot your computer. (You must do this!!!)

Now (once you restart) navigate to your iTunes folder, “\My Documents\My Music\iTunes”, find a file named “iTunes Library.itl” and RENAME it or DELETE it… (I usually re-name files instead of deleting them, in case of —Ohhh Crap moment—”) Let’s assume you have re-named the file to something like “iTunes Library_OLD_iTUNES-9.itl”

Now while still in the iTunes directory, open a folder named “Previous iTunes Libraries” and look for the backup of your old pre iTunes 9 library; it should be dated at about the time you first installed/upgraded to iTunes 9 (Mine was named “iTunes Library 2009-09-14.itl“), Copy that file and paste it into your “\My Documents\My Music\iTunes”. Now rename it to “iTunes Library“.

Once all steps above are completed, download and install the previous version of iTunes 8.2 onto your computer. See link below…

http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iTunes8/061-6664.20090608.dfrtg/iTunesSetup.exe

Restart your computer after iTunes 8.2 is installed successfully and Enjoy it…

That’s it, there are no other steps, you’re done…!!!

As many of you know on September 9th, 2009 Apple has came out with a new version of iTunes (iTunes 9)… Well along with that Apple also came out with the 3.1 OS Update for the iPhone and a lot of us / you had questions whether the RedSn0w 0.8 would be able to Jailbreak and Unlock the 3.1… The answer was / is “NO”, Dev Team is working on the 3.1 support for Jailbreak and Unlock for the iPhones and iTouches.

Here was another question that came up, this one is more relevant to this post… “If I have a Jailbroken / Unlocked iPhone or iTouch, can I upgrade to iTunes 9?” It was confirmed that YES you can upgrade to iTunes 9 if you’re iPhone is already Jailbroken and Unlocked. I have multiple Jailbroken devices and all of them worked just fine with the new iTunes 9.

So Jailbreakers, go right ahead and upgrade your iTunes to the latest version and enjoy all the new features.

So what’s new in iTunes? Well here is a small list of new features;

iTunes LP

-The best thing to happen to fandom.

The visual experience of the record album returns with iTunes LP. Download select albums and experience a beautifully designed, interactive world right in your iTunes library on a Mac or PC — many are created by the artists. While you listen to your favorite songs, you can dive into animated lyrics and liner notes, watch performance videos, view artist and band photos, and enjoy other bonus materials. And become an even bigger fan.

Home Sharing

A better way to share.

iTunes makes it easier to share music, movies, TV shows, and more. With Home Sharing, you can browse the iTunes libraries of up to five authorized computers in your house, import what you like, and automatically add new purchases made on any of the computers to your own library.

The Redesigned iTunes Store

Check out the new venue.

The world’s #1 music store is even better. With a beautiful redesign and refined navigation, the new iTunes Store makes it easy to explore songs, movies, TV shows, and more.

iTunes Extras

Now featuring: Special features.

When you buy select movies from the iTunes Store, you won’t get just a movie. You’ll get iTunes Extras — a world of special features you can experience right in your iTunes library. Watch interviews and trailers, view photos, and more on your Mac or PC.

Genius Mixes

Perfect mixes come automatically.

Meet Genius Mixes. This new feature searches your iTunes library, finds songs that go great together, and creates multiple mixes you’ll love. All automatically. These mixes are like channels programmed entirely with your music. You may discover songs you never knew you had — and rediscover forgotten favorites.

Improved Syncing

A simpler way to sync.

iTunes brings new, more flexible ways to sync your media from your computer to your iPhone or iPod. And it’s easier to organize all the apps on your iPhone or iPod touch, because now you can do it right in iTunes, right from your computer. Shop the App Store on your computer, iPhone, or iPod touch. Then go to your iTunes library to arrange (and rearrange) your apps and add (or delete) Home screens. iTunes automatically syncs your new Home screens with your iPhone or iPod touch.

Many Other Improvements

Refinements that rock.

iTunes brings you even better ways to manage and share everything in your library. You can make your Smart Playlists even smarter.
