Apple has posted the Verizon iPhone 4 firmware to its servers for public download for Verizon iPhone 4 owners ofcourse.
You can download the iOS 4.2.6 firmware right now directly from Apple here is the link to it here. One of the iPhone Dev-Team members MuscleNerd has posted the keys for anyone who’s interested.
I’m not sure what you would do with this firmware right now but it is available. This is the time to start taking it apart and looking for clues and exploits. It almost seems Apple does this on purpose every time. Read more…
The iPhone Dev-Team has released a new version of redsn0w that can jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 and install custom bundles independent of Cydia.
Please note that this version of Redsn0w is meant for developers only and does not install the new version of Cydia. This version of Redsn0w is also tethered for newer devices and that means whenever your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is dead or turned off it would have to be re-jailbroken again via Redsn0w.
If you’re on the road and your iPhone has to be restarted you will have to re-jailbreak it again and again EVERY TIME you shut your iDevice OFF or if your Battery Dies.
PLEASE CONSIDER THIS AN ADVANCED TOPIC!! It’s not meant for the masses because it involves rather nerdy things like command lines and tar files. But for those who know how to use this new redsn0w feature, have fun! Read more…
The iPhone Dev-Team has confirmed that RedSn0w 0.9.6b2 can jailbreak iOS 4.2 GM Seed; however, they warn it should only be attempted by advanced users.
This tutorial will show you everything you need to do, step by step how to Jailbreak iOS 4.2 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPad (on iOS 3.2.2) and iPod touch 4G / 3G / 2G using the newly released RedSn0w 0.9.6b2 jailbreak tool for Windows or Mac
Today Apple released to developers the GM seed for 4.2. Tinkerers will find that yesterday’s redsn0w jailbreaks today’s 4.2 GM seed, simply by pointing redsn0w at the 4.1 IPSW (rather than the 4.2 one).
Right now it mostly only makes sense for JB app developers to do that because many apps (including Cydia itself) need to be Read more…
The iPhone Dev Team has just released an updated version 0.9.6b2 of Redsn0w which is based on Geohot’s limera1n exploit and it can jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPad (on iOS 3.2.2) and iPod touch 4G / 3G / 2G (Non MC Model only).
In addition, this new version includes custom boot land recovery logos for the older devices like iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) iPod touch 2G (Non MC), and iPhone 3G.
This will let Windows users restore to a custom IPSW that were reated using PwnageTool for Mac. Up to this point only Mac users could create and restore to a Custom IPSW files using the PwnageTool but now with the released of new version of Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 you can restore to a custom IPSW file without upgrading your basebands. Come to find out our boy Geohot has another untethered jailbreak exploit that he held back from Limera1n to prevent Apple from learning about it.
Incase you were wondering why Geohot used a userland exploit from Comex to make Limera1n untethered, it was because he did not wanted to waste his untethered version of bootrom exploit.
Both Comex and MuscleNerd has confirmed that Geohot has in his possession a new untethered bootrom level exploit which can be used to pwn future iOS devices like iPhone 5 and iPad 2G for life. Read more…
Yesterday Geohot has released his Limera1n jailbreak for Mac OS X. Limera1n supports the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, and AppleTV (limited).
Up to this point only Windows version was available so all the Mac users were sort of out of luck up to this point.
Remember if you require an unlock do not upgrade to iOS 4.1, you will need to wait for the next PwnageTool release. The only exception is the iPhone 4 which could be upgraded to iOS 4.1 without updating the baseband. Read more…
Today MuscleNerd has tweeted that the iPhone Dev-Team is planning to release PwnageTool for iOS 4.1 by Sunday.
For AppleTV 2G users, the goal is for PwnageTool to cover you by Funday/Sunday (but still very limited app capability)
Two jailbreak utilities for iOS 4.1 have already been released. Limera1n and Greenpois0n. Unfortunately, both Jailbreak Solutions / Tools are for Windows only. Mac versions are said to be coming soon; however, that date can’t come soon enough for many users. A lot of Mac users are dying to jailbreak their devices so if you are a Mac user there is a light at the end of the tunnel for you.
PwnageTool has previously been a Mac only tool. This release should also bring the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad jailbreak to Mac users. Read more…
Past couple of days were just nutts… With the new Limera1n Jailbreak released by Geohot the next big question people have been asking is, where is the unlock? It seems we may be getting it sooner than we expected, the video below explains it all.
The new Limera1n Jailbreak will be equipped with new “Snow” unlock? This is all happening very fast so I’m not sure if this video is real of fake but watch it and let me know what you think.
The video shows new Unlock as the LimeSn0w which looks very credible and 100% similar to the previously released unlock (by GeoHot) called BlackSn0w.
It is recommended if you jailbroke your iPhone or iPad with the Limera1n Jailbreak to keep the Limera1n tear drop installer as the unlock might show up later down the road as an option to install. Read more…
As we all know for past couple of weeks MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev-Team was showing off the GreenPois0n Jailbreak solution that was going to come out today Sunday (Funday) October 10th, 2010 at 10:10:10am and in some videos MuscleNerd demonstrated that he infact did Jailbreak his Apple TV with the GreenPois0n.
Since GeoHot decided to release his Limera1n Jailbreak (Which uses different exploit than SHAtter / GreenPois0n) to feed his big ego the GreenPois0n Jailbreak project was put on hold so both exploits would not be revealed and patched by Apple at the same time.
Well we knew some users out there will try to Jailbreak their Apple TV 2G with the Limra1n Jailbreak that was released by GeoHot yesterday and some of them did it.
Erica Sadun from the TUAW has confirmed that she was able to jailbreak her Apple TV with Limera1n; however, it does not install OpenSSH at this time, so not much can be done with it.
The Limera1n page has updated to indicate that Apple TV jb is “technically supported”. I can confirm that I put my ATV2 into DFU mode and was able to “jailbreak” it. But since no AFC services or OpenSSH were installed (let alone APT), there’s nothing that really can be done with it at this time. Read more…
Since the new Limera1n Jailbreak tool by GeoHot is out all iPhone 4 owners / users can now jailbreak their devices even on the latest iOS 4.1. For those of us iPhone 4 users who are still on 4.0.1 and still would like to keep our unlock the basebands must remain at the same vesion or the iPhone will be bricked.
If you will update your iPhone to the latest iOS 4.1 your basebands / Modem Firmware will be updated as well and you will not be able to unlock your iPhone for the use on other carriers such as T-Mobile, Fido, Rogets, etc.
This tutorial will show you how to upgrade your iPhone 4 to 4.1 without upgrading its baseband using TinyUmbrella. Read more…
