Apple has closed the exploit used for the Spirit jailbreak in the new iOS 4.0 so the all-in-one untethered iDevice jailbreak for iPhone 3.1.3, iPad 3.2 and iPod touch  2G/3G will not work with the newest Apple Firmware / iOS 4.0.

Spirit is still Available for both Windows  and Mac OS if your iPhone is 3.1.3 or lower, iPad is 3.2, or iPod Touch is 3.1.3 or lower.

Spirit is a userland jailbreak but it does not work out-of-the browser as previously thought.

Got some really good news for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G users! iPhone OS 4 had been Jailbroken already and some of iPhone devs/hackers have now apparently managed to enable multitasking on the older iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G, both of which were limited by Apple due to lower amount of RAM on these devices.

This is what a recent tweet from an iPhone dev said.

wow looks like multitasking can be enabled on the 3G if you just set multitasking=TRUE on the capabilities plist in SB (N82AP.plist)

For those of you who don’t know, N82AP.plist is one of the two main files in the system directory which includes all the main functions of the OS that can be adjustable to ones liking.

According cdevwill, there is this variable of multitasking which if set to TRUE from FALSE can enable multitasking on iPhone 3G. Now we are not sure if you can just go ahead and enable it just like that, or if it will require a jailbreak.

Here is what happened, Apple today announced iPhone OS 4 which brings more than 100 new features and over 1500 new APIs for both users and developers respectively.

iPhone OS 4 is fully supported on iPhone 3GS and Third Generation (3G) iPod Touch. iPhone 3GS still is a superior phone and all the features are available for this device, no questions asked.

iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G will run most of the things except for multitasking which really sucks because 3G iPhone is still very popular and still is being sold in all AT&T stores and other locations.

An iPad version of iPhone OS 4 is expected to be released this fall. Why? we don’t know why the iPad OS is not coming out at the same time but if you ask me; I say it’s all about the money. The iPad OS upgrade will probably be optional “Paid” upgrade just like today’s iTouch devices.

The details on upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 have been leaked and now some of these details are posted on BoyGeniousReport.

Here are some of the details / iPhone OS 4.0 features according the their trusted source;

• There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)

• “A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.

• Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.

• The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”

• The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.

The upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 firmware is expected to be announced at Apple’s special event on January 27th

There is a rumor out that a new Firmware 3.1.3 is coming out for iPhones, and the iPhone 4.0 firmware version is also spotted. Is it coming out to the iPhone community anytime soon / in  the near future?

People at the BGR (Boy Genious Report) have found out references to iPhone 3.1.3, and the iPhone 4.0 firmware version in their server logs and they seems to be legitimate.

While iPhone 3.1.3 will only be a minor release with some minor bug fixes, etc., the 4.0 firmware will be a major release version and we can expect it to ship with the next-generation iPhone model sometime in summer of 2010.

We don’t know anything about the features that the new firmware is going to offer, but you can expect it to add alot of new features, kind of the same deals as when firmware 3.0 was released.

I personally think the 3.1.3 and 4.0 will be here before summer… Jailbreakers keep checking here and make sure you read our news before upgrading your devices.
